COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN The City Theatre 10/25-11/18/2012
The City Theatre Company presents Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean written by
Ed Graczyk October 25 November 18. The hit play is one of the most funny, emotional and
memorable evenings in the theatre and is the opening production of City Theatre's 7th Anniversary.
In the dried up, dusty town of McCarthy, Texas, it is more than the weather that is about to break....
Ed Graczyk's stirring play leaves no stone unturned as he explores the issues of love, loyalty,
friendship and hidden secrets. Set in a small West Texas town dime store where the Disciples of
James Dean reunite for the twentieth reunion in honor of their hero's death. The ladies'
reminiscences mingle with flashbacks to their youth when Dean filmed Giant years earlier in nearby
Marfa. As the emotions and heat builds, the arrival of a stranger sets off a series of confrontations that
smash their delusions and expose bitter disappointments changing their lives forever.
Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean was first produced on Broadway in 1982 and
a Feature Film was released that same year. Both the stage and screen versions were both directed
by Robert Altman and starred Sandy Dennis, Cher, Karen Black and Kathy Bates. Graczyk only spent
four years in Texas which had a lasting influence and the legend of James Dean and the closures of
five & dime stores lent their influences to the play's development. He is still writing about the
experience in his newest play Blue Moon Dancing.
Directed by Artistic Director Andy Berkovsky, the cast features Anne Hulsman (Mona), Bobbie Oliver
(Juanita), Samantha Brewer (Sissy), Wendy Zavaleta (Joanne), Renee Brown (Stella Mae), Victoria
Harrison (Edna Louise), Angelina Castillo (Young Mona), Abbey Benold (Young Sissy)
and Gabriel Diehl (Joe).

CORIOLANUS Trinity Street Players 11/2-11/18/2012
War is hell, but politics may be worse. And when one becomes the other, no one walks away unscathed.
In this season of political warfare and warring politics, experience Trinity Street Players' production of William Shakespeare's Coriolanus. Consider the questions that are as relevant today in our own sound-bite society as they were in the riotous streets of the Roman Republic: Who is worthy to lead? What role do we all have in the success or failure of our government? What is the price of power? And how far, really, are we willing to go to get what we want?
Directed by Bridget Faris and featuring some of Austin's favorite actors: David Boss, Charles Stites, Sam Mercer, and starring Kevin Gates as Coriolanus. Coriolanus promises to be an unforgettable exploration of how the politics of our government and the sometimes hidden motivations of our chosen leaders affect us all.

INTO THE WOODS Texas State University San Marcos University Mainstage Theatre 11/12-11/18/2012
An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're among the cockeyed characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's fractured fairy tale. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU The Vortex Theater 11/17-12/8/2012
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, this comedy introduces us to the Sycamores, a family that delights in eccentricity. They may seem mad, but they show us that those who pursue convention for its own sake and who need to conform to society's conventions are the maddest of us all. This play about living life to the fullest, following your own dreams, and daring to be unconventional has been a perennial since its debut in 1936.
